Observation: The lesson of the parking!
In the month of Ramadan [1] I used to have my Sahor (breakfast) early in the morning, and before heading to work I take a heavy cup of coffee to keep me energetic the rest of the day; working hours actually are helpful during that particular month; it is from 8 in the morning until 4 but this slut only for Muslim staff; such working hours helps them to go back earlier than others and have rest for a couple of hours before breakfasting time.
I liked the idea of going to work early but once I wanted to go extremely early for no reason but probably because the dose of the coffee was heavier than necessary.
so, I have finished my Sahor around 5:30, then after I took shower and prepare myself; I headed to office and I reached outdoor car park around 6:15 a.m. of which quite far earlier than necessary; and that was very observable when I found no car was in the parking yet neither the cashier.
The parking lot opposite my office is backward kind of parking; while it is open air, cash is the only payment method; it is payable to an individual who sits at a desk inside a large container where there is a hole to pass to you the tickets upon payment.
Parking rules are simple:
- Park at your own risk (no CCTV);
- Pay before parking;
- Park properly at the person in charge guidance.
Anyhow, when I entered the parking, it was completely free from all cars; for a moment, there was one question in my mind; how to solve this dilemma?
The dilemma was; I don't know where to park in this empty place!
No lines on the ground to know where and where not to park, add to that no person was there to guide me what to do, even worst, what if I parked randomly then that leads to disturbing others? oh, I was about the forget! what about the payment?!
thoughts make me make different assumptions;
- These people must have planned a solution for the payment, they might have a record so they will record my car number then will collect from the car owner on the point of leaving the parking lot in the evening (which happened to be an accurate assumption)
- There must be somehow somewhat something on the ground to guide the first car.
With these two assumptions I stopped my car and went out to look around, then yeah, there was kind of wire which all cars will lineup later, it was already covered by the soil and not really clear at all also due to less light during the dawn.
When I reached my office, I had a deeper thought from a different angle; about myself and my surrounding environment; people around me, there should be a people around you so you can compare yourself with; to mirror yourself with.
How would you know your Strengths if no one besides you having them as weakness; on the other hand how would you realize that you got that particular weakness of you didn't come across someone who has them as strength. It might be a not wise idea to compare yourself with others in terms of gifted talents; instead, I am advocating on the ground of comparing yourself with others in terms of acquirable skills and maintaining solid morals and principles.
Skills[2]; that helps you to develop yourself continuously and rapidly to be competitive; as well as your moral and principles define you as a human being in the first place.
Are we distanced to be comparative in order to be competitive and then to develop ourselves?
well, maybe, but what is definite is knowing your key strengths and weaknesses via others (if it has been taken positively); it will be a powerful momentum that will drive you forward.
In the working environment, there is always a hidden force that will demotivate us; it might be in a form of hard situations, unforeseen circumstances, or even a person hunting your imperfections and sometimes using them against you and that if that person wasn't evil to create something does not exist to attack you! all these negative forces might be strong enough to take out the worst out of us unless you are practicing the Tijin [3] or possibly adopt the philosophy of stoicism [4]
By 4 p.m. on that day; I walked to the parking and I found my beautiful car there positioned well between its mates; the uncle, Mr.Abang was already giving me nice but not sincere smile which obviously reminding me to post-pay for the parking time.
"It" in English is an adjective to describe irrational creatures or brainless materials, but there are situations where these brainless materials are doing things rational!
how about "walls have ears?"
Well, if walls have ears, then definitely PARKING can speak lessons!.
